I got this book inside the April Owlcrate’s box. The theme was “The Dark Side”. When i reached the bottom of the box and saw the book i was definitely in LOVE. I mean ? That black and red version ? It’s soooooo gorgeous. The book is absolutely stunning. I started it right away, but… May was a busy month, so i couldn’t really fall into that book until june and my holidays.

The goodies featured inside the box from @bookisbl0g_

Let’s be honest : 5 pages in, and i was in love with Nadya. Two lines inside Serefin’s head and i was stuck for him. I enjoyed each and every page of the book, I was so “inside” that i kinda forgot to think about anything else. This book had me stuck inside its page, and i couldn’t pause until i finished it. This is the mark of a good book to me.

This book is full of funny quotes. When i was reading, i laughed at the most inappropriate moments (wooops.) I could give you twenty, just right now. (at first i was taking pictures of the funny moments to send it to my friends, but i just had to stop, because there were too much …) My favorite might be that one:

“The understanding i had in mind was one that keep you safer than this, towy dzimyka, he said voice rutefull.
– Oh, so boring ! I grew up in a monastery. I’ve been safe all my life, Nadya replied.”

There are, of course, some weakness. No book is perfect. I would have LOVED to see a bit more the side character. I have the feeling the writer kinda forgot them from time to time, until she needed them to act and magically put them back in the story.

I’ve also seen some people telling that Nadya was defined by her relation with a man (i won’t say witch one because this is a spoiler free review), but i disagree. She is a young cleric, she grew up in a monastery, and it is the very first time in her life she is with someone “new”. And, you have to admit that, that peculiar mystery guy IS attractive. I would have loved to see a bit more hate between them, thought. I’m a huge fan of hate to love relationship, and i found the way Nadya fell form him a bit rapid, and a bit easy, even if she struggle with herself and her feeling from start to end.

Let’s talk about the ending, now. I understood what would happen a few pages before it happened. And i was like “nooo… No don’t do that. donn’t… Ok you did it you f*** bas***”. And yes, he did it. He did it, he betrayed everyone, and my heart broke.

In the end, i have to say that i loved that book, even if it crushed my heart in a million pieces. I can’t wait for the sequel (one year … we have to wait one year for it 🙁 ) to see what happens next. This is definitely a trilogy i will preorder as soon as it’s possible !
